U.S manufacturers contributed $2.773 trillion in the first quarter of 2022, according to the National Association of Manufacturers.
Nine percent of the U.S. population is employed in the manufacturing industry, and as of 2019, more than 348,000 people are employed in paper manufacturing, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. About 1.4 million U.S. manufacturing jobs were lost during the early days of the pandemic, according to the study, setting back the manufacturing labor force by more than a decade. The manufacturing skills gap in the U.S. could result in 2.1 million unfilled jobs by 2030, according to a new study by Deloitte and The Manufacturing Institute, the workforce development and education partner of the NAM.
