The menu is one of the most powerful visual branding opportunities a restaurant has, as every customer looks at it once they sit down at their table. Make the most of it by creating a rustic feel using natural or black Kraft paper.

The Borough Bar in New York City accomplished this look, combining a rustic printed paper menu sheet with a more contemporary leather backing to reflect the old-and-new aesthetic of the popular city bistro.

Table No. 1 in Shanghai did something similar, using heavy weight Kraft paper to create a rustic menu folder with a logo stamped on the front. They even took it one step further with card stock-thickness Kraft paper business cards in the shape of a table!

Contrasting white chalk on brown kraft paper can be an eye-catching way to mix rustic charm with simple elegance. The concept can go in many different directions, but this example is from a DIY tutorial that shows you how to create stenciled “placemats” to outline place settings at the table.

Try this technique to list daily drink specials, a personalized message from the server, or even as a fun way for customers to spend their time while waiting for their meals. (Imagine a Tic-Tac-Toe board beside each place setting, or a Hangman template?)

Does your restaurant feature a buffet? How about a make-your-own sundae bar, or omelet station?

One creative event coordinator created a step-by-step guide for her guests to make their way through her waffle bar by writing fun and eye-catching directions out on the Kraft paper tablecovers she set up across the buffet.

Take this idea and run with it by labeling various food options, offering helpful suggestions for pairing or providing nutritional information.

Here’s another memorable option for writing on natural or black Kraft paper to make a rustic branding statement.

This image shows a creative way to highlight the bride and groom at a casual wedding reception, but the same idea can easily grace an entrance lobby with daily specials, a beer menu, or a welcome message.

As another idea, imagine sectioning off various areas in the restaurant, or even individual tables, with these individualized screens for an added level of charm.

There is no end to the possibilities you can come up with for branding your restaurant memorably, affordably, and effectively. One thing all these great ideas have in common is adaptable Kraft paper
